Spotlighting the long-standing influence of Chinese design on Liberty, for the Eastern Voyage collection the Design Studio worked closely with four Chinese artists to bring their stories to life, in a collaborative practice that speaks to the heart of the Liberty ethos. The narratives expressed in their work is often inspired by their country, whether through the use of centuries-old techniques or the depiction of elements that are culturally inseparable from life in China. In a celebration of contrasts, eight carefully curated designs transcend aesthetic boundaries by giving us a glimpse into each artist’s unique perspective and creative expression, before being expertly printed onto our inimitable Tana Lawn™ cotton for the perfect finish.

A birds-eye view of an imagined park in the heart of Shanghai sets a tranquil atmosphere for this dreamy design, where Chinese kites glide far above the picturesque park with their delicately line drawn pagodas and ornamental features. Copies of feathery trees provide shelter for picnicking figures, whilst others frolic in airy spaces. The variety of brush marks used adds a sense of depth and a softness to the landscape.

Our Tana Lawn™ cotton is a fabric built by obsession, perfected into a modern masterpiece of production through a bespoke process that has evolved over a century. Printed in our very own Liberty Printing Mill, located between Milan and Lake Como in northern Italy, Tana realises unmatchable fluidity with a silk-like touch, unique print quality and striking colour vibrancy. Machine washable and durable enough for daily wear, it can be used to create everything from simple separates to spectacular statement pieces.
